Recently, I published my 150th article on Medium and thought of sharing a few tips for improving technical writing process.
So here are the tips as follows:

1. Engage with your audience: Foster a connection by addressing your readers directly and anticipating their questions. Encourage feedback to create a dialogue.

2. Analogies and metaphors: Simplify complex concepts by drawing parallels with everyday situations. This helps readers grasp technical content more easily.

3. Visual aids:

Incorporate diagrams, charts, or code snippets to enhance comprehension. A well-placed visual can often convey information more effectively than paragraphs of text.

4. Storytelling:

Weave a narrative into your technical articles to make them more engaging. Share real-world scenarios or problems that your audience can relate to.

5. Use active voice:

Opt for active voice to make your writing more dynamic and direct. This helps in maintaining clarity and readability.

6. Thorough editing:

Edit your articles rigorously for clarity, grammar, and coherence. Consider seeking feedback from peers or using tools like Grammarly to polish your writing.

7. In-depth research:

Base your articles on extensive research. Cite reputable sources, and provide links for further reading to establish credibility.

8. Balance depth and simplicity: Strive for a balance between depth and simplicity. Ensure that your content is accessible to a wide audience without sacrificing technical accuracy.

9. Consistent style:

Maintain a consistent writing style throughout your articles. This includes tone, formatting, and the way you present technical terms.

10. Stay updated:

In the fast-paced tech world, stay abreast of the latest developments. Regularly update your articles to reflect current practices and technologies.

11. Interactive content:

Experiment with interactive elements like quizzes, code challenges, or interactive demos within your articles to enhance reader engagement.

12. Networking:

Connect with other technical writers and professionals in your field. Exchange ideas, seek advice, and stay connected to the broader community.

13. User-friendly structure:

Organize your content logically with clear headings, subheadings, and a well-defined structure. This aids readers in navigating through your article seamlessly.

14. Storyboarding: Before diving into writing, create a rough storyboard outlining the flow of your article. This helps in maintaining a coherent structure.

15. Be mindful of your audience’s expertise:

Understand your target audience’s level of expertise and adjust your content accordingly. Provide explanations for beginners while delving into advanced details for experienced readers.

Also here are few ways to market technical articles to improve the reach and increase audience once article is written:

1. Social Media Platforms:

Share snippets, insights, and links to your technical articles on popular platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Threads and relevant niche forums. Engage with your audience by responding to comments and participating in discussions.

2. Email Newsletters:

Build an email subscriber list and send out regular newsletters featuring highlights from your latest technical articles. Offer exclusive content or insights to incentivize people to subscribe.

3. Collaborate with Influencers: Partner with influencers or experts in your field who can share your articles with their followers. This can significantly broaden your reach and lend credibility to your content.

4. Guest Blogging: Contribute articles to reputable blogs or websites within your industry. This not only exposes your content to a new audience but also establishes you as an authority in the field.

5. Cross-Promotion: Cross-promote your articles across different channels. For example, include links to your technical articles in your YouTube video descriptions or podcast show notes.

6. SEO Optimization: Optimize your articles for search engines by using relevant keywords, meta tags, and ensuring a clean URL structure. This can improve your articles' visibility in search engine results.

7. Webinars and Workshops: Host webinars or online workshops based on the topics covered in your technical articles. This not only promotes your content but also provides an interactive platform for audience engagement.

8. Podcasting: Create a podcast where you discuss the themes covered in your articles. This adds an audio dimension to your content and attracts audiences who prefer listening over reading.

9. Online Communities: Participate in and contribute to relevant online communities such as forums, Reddit, or specialized social media groups. Share your articles when they offer value to ongoing discussions.

10. Repurpose Content: Convert your technical articles into different formats like infographics, videos, or slide decks. This allows you to share your content across various platforms, reaching audiences with different preferences.

11. Utilize Paid Advertising: Invest in targeted advertising on platforms like Google Ads or social media to promote your technical articles. This can be especially effective for reaching a specific demographic.

12. Collaborate with Industry Publications: Reach out to industry publications or newsletters and propose collaboration. Contributing content to established publications can significantly enhance your reach.

13. Leverage Visual Platforms: Use platforms like Instagram or Pinterest to create visually appealing snippets or infographics related to your technical content. Visual content often gets more traction.

14. Engage in Online Discussions: Participate in discussions on platforms like Stack Overflow or relevant LinkedIn groups. Share your insights and include links to your articles when they provide additional value.

15. Encourage User Participation: Encourage readers to share your articles by including easily accessible social media sharing buttons. Also, ask for feedback and encourage discussions in the comments section of your articles.

Consistency is key in marketing your technical articles. Regularly apply these strategies and monitor their effectiveness to refine your approach over time.

Conclusion

Remember, the key is to make your technical content informative, engaging, and accessible to a diverse audience.
